The Nourishing Asian Kitchen
and Eat the Weeds
If you know anything about me, you realize I absolutely love finding, reading, and sharing books. Here are two books I felt I needed to add to my library.
I found the first book via Homesteading Family’s video interview with Sophia Eng, a surprising interview since I have been to a regular gathering with her family!
Sally Fallon Morell, of Nourishing Traditions fame, has written the foreword. As an aside, the Weston A. Price website and Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride (healing for the gut, mental diagnoses, and autism) have also steered me toward better health.
An important caveat for my Torah-pursuant friends is that this book does include recipes that use unclean animals such as pork and shellfish. I personally will just substitute better meat ingredients for those. Unfortunately, many traditional foods are not necessarily healthy! Nevertheless, because of this addition to my recipe books, I look forward to making some quality Asian food without MSG and other toxic additives.
If you are one of those who still eat pork or are on the fence for others, please see the excellent video below.
I found the second book via David the Good’s video. This is another great book to improve the nutrition in your life by taking advantage of the hidden world of food right outside your door that just blend right into the scenery…until you start recognizing them and their value. The book lists common plants, photos, preparation ideas, and nutrition facts. I am excited to level up my foraging skills (which are minimal at present, I assure you!). The author’s YouTube channel and website are probably also worth a look, advertised as the leading foraging resources out there.
